Hey! Just what everyone needs...another music blog!

Hi and thanks for visiting Headphonia!

Headphonia will be for the omnivorous music lover with an emphasis on my own interpretation of psychedelia. For me, psychedelia is something that takes you out of the here and now and into an abstract and/or surreal realm. Music that when you pay close attention to all the sounds, the composition of the piece, the ambiance and mood, will pay you back with sonic rewards. My goal? Merely to turn you on to music that you've never heard before.

I will have a general topic that I will blab about and have some music that somehow relates. Sometimes, it will be of one particular artist or genre. Others will be a melange revolving around a theme. I'll try to make each one about 70-75 minutes so it can all fit onto a CD-R if you decide to burn a copy. I won't post entire albums but separate songs that I've taken time to organize the order so a cool little mix is made.

Like I said earlier, Headphonia is for the adventurous sonic explorer. Expect to find afrobeat, all kinds of ambient, avant pop, black/doom metal, Tropicalia/Brazilian psych, experimental, minimalism, shoegaze/dream pop, dub and dubstep, electro-acoustic, electronic, hard bop, free and improvised jazz, folk-psych and free-folk, hard funk, classic Northern and Southern soul, lots of Indian, Nothern African and Middle Eastern, gamelan, J-psych/pop, Krautrock, soundtracks and library music, noise, no wave, post-punk, reggae, ska & rocksteady and the uncatagorizable, just to name, uh, a few. Not everyone will like all the music I post, but at least give it a spin - you might be surprised!

This is a labor of love. Every song I post is something that I want to share with you. This endeavor is a product of 30+ years of record collecting and deep listening. Writing about music is as much a search for the how, why and what affects me as it is to try to find the most incredible songs in the world and play them for you. Which is my goal. Enjoy!
